After the great success of the Eiffage Dakar Motorway Marathon’S first edition, which gathered more than 20,000 runners from all over the world, the innovative, cultural, sports and social international event is back for a second edition full of novelties !
THE ICONIC CHALLENGE IS BACK !
The 2nd edition of this popular and festive Marathon, organized for the first time in Senegal in 2016 in collaboration with the Senegalese Federation of Athletics (FSA), aims to place the city of Dakar at the center of renowned international sports events. Due for 14th April 2019, this competition is the prelude to the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) which will be held in Dakar in 2022, a first in Africa and in the history of Olympism.
This time, the Dakar Marathon Eiffage course will take runners into the heart of the capital, offering trails that are not only accessible to the country's youth, but also to all segments of the population (athletes , amateurs, families) to live up to the rhythm of sports and Olympic values. The runners will discover the city of Dakar in a new way : through its major roads, its historic sites and monuments, as well as some of its seaside resorts. In this year's program there are 4 planned race itineraries :
- The Marathon (42 km)
- The Half-Marathon (21 km)
- The 10 km race
- The Kids Stadium (For children aged 6 to 13 years old)
Thanks to these 3 itineraries, the 2nd edition of the Dakar Eiffage Marathon establishes itself as a great opportunity for the general public to combine sport, discovery and fun.
THE MARATHON VILLAGE : A PLACE OF EXHIBITIONS AND CONVIVIALITY
The Marathon village is a place for exchanges and meetings open to all, whether runners or not. It will be an opportunity for participants to meet with family and friends, talk and share during a sports moment that is both friendly and cosmopolitan. There will be many activities and animations (stands, exhibitions, and games) available to all audiences, participants, families and spectators. This year, the marathon village will be at the Place de la Nation (former Obelisk Square) as well as the Kids Stadium that will offer many playful activities for children aged 6 to 13, allowing them to discover the fundamentals of athletics: running, jumping and throwing.
If this is your first time in Senegal, take the opportunity to discover all the facets of the country of TERANGA. Thanks to its cool climate, the month of April is ideal for exploring the country and discovering the heart of Senegal through its lush nature, wildlife and extraordinary landscapes.
